Group Levels

This is a great class for children ages 1 to 2 years. With the gentle guidance of the teacher, students will learn elementary skills such as safely getting in and out of the pool, floating on their back, getting their face and hair wet, moving through the water, going under water, and blowing bubbles. Otter Pup 1 is designed to make young children feel comfortable and adapting to the pool environment. Feeling comfortable and safe in the water is the first step in learning how to swim.

For ages 3 to 4 years old. Designed to give young children a head start on swimming. Great for children to get comfortable in the water and begin to work on basic skills while interacting with instructors and other children in a fun and safe environment.

For children about ages 5 & 6. Designed to orient children to the aquatic environment and to begin working on basic aquatic skills such as entering and exiting the water, putting face into the water, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, going under water, bobbing, front and back glides, and freestyle arms.

Water exploration for children ages 7 to 8. Children learn basics of swimming: Rhythmic bobbing/breathing, floating in prone and supine positions, gliding in prone and supine positions, flutter kick in prone and supine positions, freestyle arm stroke, basic safety rules, retrieve submerged objects, how to stay safe in the water, and jumping safely into water.

Primary skills for ages 8 to 10. Children should already be able to float on their front and back and put their head under water, and swim 5 yards. Children will work on: floating, gliding, flutter kick, free style with side breathing, elementary backstroke, turning over from front to back and back to front, retrieving objects, and jumping into water over their head.

Stroke Readiness – for ages 9 to 11. Children should already be able to: swim freestyle with side breathing, backstroke for 10 yards. Children will work on: gliding, free style with side breathing, backstroke, elementary backstroke, retrieving objects, treading water, jumping into deep water, kneeling dive, and compact dive.

Stroke refinement for children should already be able to freestyle and backstroke 25 yards, elementary backstroke 10 yards, scissors kick, whip kick, treading water, and diving. Children will work on: alternate breathing, increasing endurance, long shallow dive, free style, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, dolphin kick and butterfly, open turn on front and back, pike and tuck surface dive and treading water for 5 minutes.

Children will work on: free style, backstroke, breaststroke with flip turn, breaststroke speed turn and pullout, butterfly turn, block starts and increasing endurance.

Fun-petitive Polo is designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children 9 -12 years old. The intent is to provide basic skills and understanding of the sport in a recreational format. Although water polo is known for its toughness and endurance, Fun-petitive Polo harnesses all the fun, dynamic aspects of the game in a safe, easy to learn aquatic experience that will motivate kids to swim, have fun, and stay fit.

Snorkeling lessons are a fun way for children to explore new worlds in the pool, lake, river, and ocean. Young swimmers love to swim under water and be able to see and breathe while never taking their face out of the water. Our instructors will work with the swimmer to teach them how to be comfortable wearing a mask, snorkel, and fins. Snorkelers will learn how to get water out of their masks, purge (get water out of the snorkel), relieve pressure as they diver deeper, and use the fins to move through the water.

This activity is best suited for swimmers with intermediate skills who can swim 75 feet without stopping, demonstrate skills swimming both the freestyle and breaststroke, and be comfortable going under water.
